A Bug Hat Protects You from Bites

Hiking in the mountains or hunting in the wilderness can be an exciting adventure for anyone that enjoys the outdoors. In my town, once hunting season started men would take off work and take their teenage sons out of school for a few days of camaraderie, hopefully returning with enough deer meat to make jerky or for a homemade dinner. However, they would always return with several bug bites. Bugs are probably the most irksome part of the outside environment.

Personally, I am not much of a hunter, although I know several. After meeting my husband, I began to adventure into the outdoors more often, whether it was for a hike or a long biking trip. Since I live by a lake in the heartland of Virginia, I have learned to detest the flying bugs that are prevalent in the humid outdoors. Luckily, I found a solution to bug bites that allowed me to more fully enjoy the outdoors.

Hat

For a birthday present I bought my husband a mosquito hat. This bug hat claimed that it would protect against mosquito bites and irritating insects around the face and neck. The hat had a wide brim and a fine mesh netting that could be taken out of a zipper and hang securely past the face down to the collarbone area. My husband used it on his hunting trip with his friends and came back raving about its usefulness.

He tried to encourage me to wear it to stop me from complaining about bugs flying into my eyes and nose while we were hiking or about mosquito bites from gardening. At first, I wouldn't touch it because I thought it wasn't "stylish." However, he knew me better and bought me a neutral colored hat for a hike that weekend. I reluctantly brought it along, and I soon found myself putting in on. Amazingly, the bug hat was easy to see through and I loved not swatting at bugs every few seconds.

Now I love my hat and wear it not only when I am hiking, but gardening as well. I have even bought some for my family who periodically adventure in the outdoors. It is the greatest invention for avoiding irritating bugs. I only wish I had thought of it first or at least bought it sooner!
